House Rules
IMPORTANT INFORMATION BASIC HOUSE No smoking, open fires, grills on deck, or fireworks at the house - on beach RULES: only. Be fire aware. Keep all doors and windows CLOSED. The salt air damages the inside of the home. Do not put the AC below 70 degrees as it will freeze the handler and you will not have any AC. No social gatherings or parties. Call for permission for any day guests. Children must be accompanied at all times. No food, chemicals, bleach, grease, feminine hygiene products, wipes, or sand, etc., down the drain as we are on a sensitive septic system. Anything other than toilet paper and human waste will cause major damage to the system and incur costs to us both. Please be sure no sandy items are washed in the machine or in the sink. We have a very sensitive septic that will back up instantly and cause a massive flood. Rinse sandy items outside. Sand will damage our septic and washing machine. Please do not take white towels, bedding, or furniture to the beach. Close and lock doors and windows to prevent bugs, rusting appliances, and to secure the home. If you slam the door, the doorknob can jam, effectively locking you out. Use hot pads for hot items to protect countertops and table. A charcoal grill and coal bucket is available on the front lawn but is not maintained. Please clean after use and use fire safety. Ensure the coals are fully cooled before disposal. Do not cut through the dunes in front of our house. Creating more paths through the dunes is illegal, and rattlesnakes can live there. Please report any damages that you see within the first 4 hours of arrival, otherwise we will assume everything is in working order. Report any damages that occur while you’re in residence. Please leave the house as you found it and use common sense with regard to use of the home. If you wouldn’t do something at your mom’s house, please don’t do it at ours is a good rule of thumb to follow. PARKING: 4 cars in driveway only, not on road. Please do not park in septic field and do not park on the grass. BEACH ACCESS: Please do not cut through the dunes in front of our house. Creating more paths through the dunes is illegal, and snakes can live there. To walk to the beach, there is a cutout in the dunes two houses to the right. To drive to the beach, use any public access road. To park, buy a $10 vehicle sticker at any convenience store or when the “sticker police” drive by. TRASH: Put the trash in the 2 receptacles (Sunday Night) and (Wednesday Night) as trash pickup is early Monday / Thursday morning at 6am. SAND: Use outside shower and hose for anything sandy. Please do not put sandy items in the wash machine or rinse off inside. YARD: Wear shoes - there are sticker burrs and the occasional ant pile. Please do not drive in the septic area as it will damage the septic lines.

No portable grills, fireworks, candles, or anything with an open flame allowed near the house. Please be fire aware with our big Gulf breezes. Please keep doors and windows closed, the salt air does major damage to appliances etc. What to bring: Beach items: Beach umbrella, fishing gear, boogie boards, sunscreen. Most guests get around the Gilchrist and Bolivar Peninsula area by car, truck, or golf cart. Highway 87 runs along the peninsula and connects the small beach communities, making it easy to drive between restaurants, fishing spots, beach access points, and local stores. Many visitors also drive directly on the beach, which is one of the area’s most popular features. Golf carts are common for short trips around the beach neighborhoods, especially for sunset rides or quick trips to the sand. Fishing enthusiasts often bring boats or kayaks, with nearby launches and bayside access available throughout the peninsula. For guests wanting to explore beyond the area, the free Bolivar-Galveston Ferry provides easy access to Galveston for restaurants, shopping, and attractions, while still allowing visitors to return to the quieter beachfront setting of Gilchrist at the end of the day.
